England U21 vs Netherlands U21 predictions

Having stuttered through the start of the European Under-21 Championship, England saved their best performance for their quarter-final win over Spain and they can stay on course for a successful title defence by beating last-four rivals the Netherlands in Bratislava.

Lee Carsley’s side opened up with a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic only to endure a goalless draw with Slovenia and relinquish top spot to Germany following a 2-1 defeat in Nitra. That setback was made to look even worse as the Germans, already qualified, made 11 changes.

However, England were back on track with their 3-1 success against Spain, who had also fallen victim to the Young Lions in the 2023 final.

There are some teething problems defensively but there is no ignoring the match-winners that England possess in the final third, including Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott and James McAtee of Manchester City, who have shown why they are so highly regarded by their clubs.

Carsley shuffled his pack with four changes for the last-eight rumble with Spain, welcoming back captain McAtee and Newcastle full-back Tino Livromento, while also handing first tournament starts to Tyler Morton and Birmingham’s big-money purchase Jay Stansfield.

They were changes which helped revitalise England and it took only 15 minutes to stamp their authority as McAtee and Elliott had them two goals to the good.

Carsley has a wealth of attacking options at his disposal - Elliot Anderson, Ethan Nwaneri and Jonathan Rowe were called upon from the bench against La Rojita - and that ammunition gives them the edge.

The Dutch should consider themselves extremely fortunate to have made the final four. Michael Reiziger’s side drew 2-2 with Finland and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Denmark as they finished runners-up to the Danes in Group D.

Meanwhile, they played with ten men for 70 minutes during their 1-0 quarter-final success over Portugal and were thankful for some slack finishing from their opponents as they lost the shot count 17-4.

The majority of the Dutch squad play their domestic football in the Eredivisie and there is a clear case to suggest that they lack the talent of England, who could be peaking at the perfect time.

England U21 vs Netherlands U21 bet builder predictions

England to qualify
The Young Lions have found top form at the right time and should be full of belief following their impressive 3-1 quarter-final victory Spain.

Elliot Anderson to be shown a card
The Forest midfielder collected ten yellow cards in 37 Premier League appearances this season and he has made four fouls and picked up one booking from four tournament appearances.

Million Manhoef to have one or more shots on target
The tricky Stoke winger is leading attempts for the Dutch at this tournament and he hit the target in each of his first three appearances before coming unstuck against Portugal.
