Germany U21 vs France U21 predictions

Germany and France, the two highest scorers in the European Under-21 Championship, square-up in the second semi-final in Kosice and the match has all the hallmarks of a contest that should produce fireworks.

The Germans racked up nine goals in maintaining a perfect record in Group B, recording wins against England, Czech Republic and Slovenia, while they needed an extra-time strike from Merlin Rohl to see off a spirited Italy side 3-2 in the quarter-final.

The nine men of Italy equalised with a 96th-minute free-kick, showing that this Germany rearguard can have lapses in concentration, and France have attacking assets in Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert and Djaoui Cisse who can hurt them.

That said, in Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, who has five goals in four appearances, Germany have a potential player of the tournament on their hands and France have hardly been watertight at the back.

Gerald Baticle’s side played out a goalless draw with Portugal in their tournament opener but from then on their matches have been filled with drama.

France have recorded 3-2 wins over Georgia and Denmark, either side of a 4-1 rout of Poland, and on both occasions they trailed 2-1 with less than ten minutes remaining.

So, with both sides relying on their attacking powers to cancel out the occasional defensive mishap, plenty of goals would appear likely.

There have been at least three goals in 15 of Germany’s last 18 matches  while both teams have scored in eight of France’s last ten internationals.

Key stat
