Marcus Rashford latest transfer odds: England star could be Barcelona bound

Marcus Rashford put himself back in the shop window with a productive loan spell at Aston Villa last season. We look at his possible destinations this summer.

Having fallen out of favour at his boyhood club Manchester United, Marcus Rashford's career was in real danger of stalling and his future was becoming increasingly uncertain.

However, a January loan to Unai Emery's Aston Villa saw him join the growing list of players to thrive away from the toxic atmosphere at Old Trafford. Rashford scored four goals and provided five assists in 17 games for the Villans, regaining his England place in the process.

Despite his rediscovered form, United still appear willing to cash in on their former fan favourite and the market suggests a move to Spanish champions Barcelona could be next on Rashford's career path.

Where will Marcus Rashford be after the summer transfer window?

If wages were not a factor, Rashford would have suitors all over the continent. He is a player with bags of pace who knows all the tricks in the book, is capable of driving up the pitch with storming runs, has a powerful shot and dead-ball quality in his locker and is also versatile, being able to play on the left or right wing as well as up front.

However, his rumoured pay package is well above £300,000 a week, meaning his potential destinations are limited. Only Europe's elite, or teams in Saudi Arabia, can afford him unless he takes a major pay cut.

While United supporter Rashford might still be happy to stay at Old Trafford, the Red Devils' poor financial situation could help force him out the door.

As one of the richest clubs in the world, it is no surprise to see Barcelona leading the way for Rashford's signature. The Spanish champions could see him as a perfect fit alongside Lamine Yamal and Raphinha in Hansi Flick's front three, especially as Robert Lewandowski is now the wrong side of 35.

Outside bets to be Marcus Rashford's next club

With plenty of Europe's elite sniffing around it could be easy to assume Rashford will be playing on the continent come next season. However, it was a move to a Premier League club which rejuvenated his career last season and he may be wishing to stay in England once again.

His wages are a stumbling block for most but not Newcastle, who are one of the world's richest clubs. The Magpies have been linked with wingers all summer and quotes of 25-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power look too big – especially as he is as short as 7-1 with Hills for a move to St James' Park.

Another Premier League side who could make a move is Arsenal, who desperately need a left-winger and are 33-1 to sign Rashford. Gabriel Martinelli's progress seems to have stalled and an experienced player like Rashford, who is still just 27-year-old, could be just what they need to improve on their third-straight second-place finish.

Our verdict: Magpies may land England star

The odds-on quotes for a Barcelona move suggest Rashford is already on his way to Catalonia but, should things fall through, it could pay to take up the big price available for Newcastle to secure the services of the Manchester United outcast.

With Bryan Mbeumo apparently bound for one of United or Tottenham, Newcastle could turn their attentions elsewhere in search of a winger. Rashford's versatility would make him an option on the wing and as a backup for Alexander Isak and he would fit in at St James' Park, where plenty of his England teammates play their football.

Perhaps most importantly, Newcastle can pay Rashford what he wants. Assuming PSR regulations don't block the Magpies' lofty ambitions once again, they may finally splash their plethora of cash and Rashford would represent an excellent signing for Howe's men.

Market movers

In terms of shortening odds, Barcelona are the biggest market movers. The Spanish champions were 6-5 to sign Rashford at the end of May but have since dropped to just 4-7 with many firms.

Barca's main target for the left-wing spot is still reportedly Athletic Club's Nico Williams, however, so those odds look short enough.
