Flamengo have already sealed their progress to the last 16 courtesy of Group D victories over Esperance de Tunis and Chelsea, and they should also be able to beat already-eliminated Los Angeles FC to maintain their perfect start.

Being in the middle of their season in Serie A has clearly had a positive impact on Flamengo and, even accounting for potential changes from manager Filipe Luis, their strong defensive foundations make them difficult to oppose.

Leaders Flamengo have claimed 24 points from 11 games in the Brazilian top flight and have conceded only four goals.

Their come-from-behind 3-1 success over Chelsea stretched their winning streak to six and they have kept seven clean sheets during their current ten-match unbeaten sequence.

LAFC have found the challenge of the Club World Cup difficult and while they produced some positive signs in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea there was little encouragement to take from their limp 1-0 loss against Esperance de Tunis last time out.

The MLS side managed only two shots on target, one of which was a Denis Bouanga penalty that was saved 11 minutes into added time, and it means that they have won only three of their last 11 games.

The Los Angeles franchise are unlikely to get much change from Flamengo’s steely defence and the Brazilians are taken to triumph in a low-scoring encounter.
