Second of three in Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud last October (1m2f, heavy) and respectable seventh of 18 in the Derby 13 days ago (1m4f, good); back down in grade today but his eight starts have yielded just one win, in a maiden at Yarmouth, and he's probably vulnerable once more.

Won Group 2 Royal Lodge (1m, soft) last September and running really well in defeat this season, second in the Craven and fifth in the Guineas before his third when upped to 10.2f in the Dante (good to firm); every chance he'll stay this far and he's one to consider in first-time cheekpieces.

Kept on for fourth in Group 3 Ballysax at Leopardstown (1m2f, good to yielding) on reappearance and suited by the step up in trip when winning the Listed Lingfield Derby Trial (11.6f, good to firm) last month, by a short head from a stablemate who hasn't run since; in excellent hands to continue to progress and O'Brien/Moore have won two of the last six runnings; player.

2-2 last year (7f/1m, AW) and remains unbeaten following two commanding wins at Goodwood (1m/1m3f; good, good to firm in places) last month, the latest a Listed race; he needed a mid-race reminder last time and may not be straightforward, but found plenty in the straight and holds leading form claims.

Down the field in first-time cheekpieces in the Derby but was maybe unsuited by tricky Epsom (he became unbalanced on the undulating Rowley Mile previously in career); prior to that he stayed on well for fifth in the Group 2 Dante at York (10.2f, good to firm) and he could tap back into that promise to produce an improved performance now back at a more conventional track for his second attempt at 1m4f; blinkers now given a go; interesting.

Made it 2-4 when winning a conditions race in first-time blinkers (retained) at Naas (10.3f, good) last month; plenty to find now upped in grade and Ryan Moore was originally due to ride stablemate Puppet Master (who's now a non-runner) but this 2,000,000gns yearling could have more to offer now tackling 1m4f and he's not discounted.

Won at Newbury (1m, soft) last September on second start and followed up on reappearance in a novice at Doncaster (1m2f, good) two weeks ago when prevailing by a neck in a first-time hood (retained); has a classy pedigree and can continue to improve, but needs a sizeable step forward to win this.

Novice wins at Redcar (1m/1m2f, soft/good) on first two starts then third in the Group 3 Chester Vase (1m4f, good) last month; no match for the first two at Chester but they were Lambourn and Lazy Griff, who went on to fill the first two places in the Derby, and he's not ruled out.

Made it 2-3 when coming from last to first to win by just over 2l in Listed race at Leopardstown (1m4f, good) 15 days ago and he didn't look the finished article (slowly away and green in the straight); highly regarded and could have lots more left in the tank; firmly in calculations.

Got up late to win Haydock novice (11.6f, good) in April on second start and a line can be put through his soundly beaten Listed fourth to Amiloc at Goodwood as he was badly hampered; others have a lot more substance to their form but he's well bred (by Frankel out of two-time Group 1 winner Izzi Top) and retains potential for his top yard; no surprise to see a good run.

Made debut in April and built upon previous promise to win by a neck in a novice at Newmarket (1m4f, good to firm) last month on his third start; every chance he'll continue to progress but he would be a surprise winner today.

Zahrann
The highly regarded ZAHRANN still looked a work in progress when winning a Listed race at Leopardstown 15 days ago and appeals as a type who could have plenty more to offer. He earns the vote ahead of Nightwalker, who caught the eye when staying on for fifth in the Dante and may not have handled Epsom when down the field in the Derby. The unbeaten Amiloc is greatly respected on the back of his 4l Listed win at Goodwood, while Lingfield Derby Trial winner Puppet Master is also firmly in the mix and Wimbledon Hawkeye could be involved, too.

What happened in the King Edward VII Stakes last year?

down

CALANDAGAN marked himself out as a top-class performer in the making with an impressive six-length success in this Group 2. Francis Graffard’s three-year-old was running on quick ground for the first time but it proved no issue. He was one of the easiest winners of the meeting under Stephane Pasquier. He has boosted the form in no uncertain terms since, finishing second in Group 1 company in the Juddmonte International behind City Of Troy, the Champion Stakes behind Anmaat and the Dubai Sheema Classic when chasing home Danon Decile. Five of the last six winners had subsequently won at the top level and he will surely follow suit.
