The governance gambit: Lord Allen's next move could make or break British racing
No change is not an option if the sport is to stop going down route of managed decline

In March, this column suggested the incoming BHA chair Charles Allen might be a catalyst for change in British racing. Now we can go further. The events of recent days would suggest the choices made by Lord Allen, whichever way he decides to go, will definitely shape British racing's future.
The sport continues to wait to see what Allen will do having not taken up the post as expected last week so he could "continue meeting stakeholders to better inform his vision for the sport".
It has been well flagged that the governance of British racing was at the top of Allen's list of priorities and he has been busy meeting senior figures from across the sport in recent months, some of them on more than one occasion. He will therefore be acutely aware of the concerns about the way the sport is run, certainly on the participants' side of things.
